Our cover story of the latest 'sb' magazine: the sports and arts centre at Hongling High School. The design goal was to utilize the central area of the existing campus to create a comprehensive venue that provides broader spaces for cultural and sports activities, while rebuilding internal connections, communication, and sharing within the campus.

The first version of the long-evolving Prahran skatepark was built in 1987. Because of it’s long historic presence in Melbourne’s skate culture, the Prahran skatepark has been a high profile inner city facility becoming an icon of Melbourne and Australian skate culture with many famous pro skaters such as Tony Hawk, Cristian Hosoi and Renton Millar visiting the facility throughout the years.

In the first stage of the overall Zimmerwiese sports area project, a beach volleyball court coupled with a football pitch (summer) and ice rink (winter) with a utility building have been realised.

The designers were eager to create diverse spaces that can store memories and give students a sense of belonging in campus. The archway at the entrance is placed to enhance the sense of entering, and the “Super Arches” make the campus a landscape on the street.
